Why Claude Code
The AI that reads your own database
Claude Code is Anthropic's AI assistant, installed on your own computer. It is the piece that turns a synchronised copy of your MYOB data into something you can simply talk to.
Why this, and not a chatbot on a website
The difference is where your data is when the question is answered.
It runs on your machine
Claude Code is installed on your PC, beside your database. The database file is never uploaded and DataWise never sees it.
It reads real data, not a summary
It queries your actual synchronised tables — every invoice, every line — rather than working from something already reduced to a report.
It can do the work, not just describe it
Write a Word document, build a spreadsheet, or post an invoice back to MYOB through the Connector. It has hands, not just answers.
How the connection is made
There is nothing to configure. The pieces find each other.
The Connector syncs your data
MYOB → a database on your PC, on your schedule.
Our MCP server attaches Claude to it
MCP is the standard way an AI assistant is given access to a data source. Ours ships inside the Connector's installer and points Claude at your companies — it finds them by itself.
You start a conversation
Ask in plain English. Claude reads the data dictionary first, so it knows which column really holds the balance owing before it answers.
Why the dictionary matters. Accounting tables are full of columns that look like the one you want and are not. Point AI at a raw accounting database and it will confidently pick the wrong one and hand you a number that looks entirely reasonable. The Connector ships a written dictionary of your data — what each field means, which one holds the balance, how the tables join — and the AI reads that first.
Getting Claude
Start free. A free Claude account answers questions from your own figures — you pay only when the allowance starts getting in your way.
1. Start with a free account
Sign up at claude.ai. A free account is enough to start — it answers from your own figures and builds Word documents, Excel workbooks and PDFs. It carries a usage limit, so it pauses for a few hours when that is reached: fine for a look around, no good halfway through a month end.
2. Install it on your PC
Anthropic's installer, on the same PC as the Connector. Then use the Connect Claude to your data shortcut the Connector puts in your Start menu, and it is wired up.
What a paid plan adds
- No usage wall in the middle of a job — the reason to pay, and on most days the only one that matters.
- Claude Code, which is not on the free plan at all. The same assistant working in your own folders rather than in a chat window.
- Reports written straight into your business folders, and a script left behind that produces the same report again next month.
- Running things, not only reading them — setting up the Excel ODBC connection, batches, scheduled jobs.
- DataWise HQ, whose assistant is Claude Code — so it does nothing at all without a paid plan.
You do not have to decide today. Start free, ask it a few questions, and move to a paid plan when the allowance starts getting in your way. Nothing needs reinstalling — you sign in to the same app.
What it costs
Nothing extra from us. Asking your data is included in the Connector licence — no per-question charge, nothing metered. From Anthropic, a free account costs nothing and is enough to start; a paid plan is bought from them and priced on their own page.
Try it on your own numbers
Fourteen days free. Ask it the question you have been meaning to answer.
